The female owners of a future spa came to us with a challenge; create a space of repose and recharge that was of equal or better quality as their personal services. They envisioned an inviting space of tranquility, serenity and rejuvenation to allow their customers to be restored in this fast-paced and hectic world.
We assisted them with site selection and lease negotiation, helping secure a space in a great location, with good bones and several distinct features to create their spa around. The space features significant floor-to-ceiling windows on the southwest corner that cause the daylight-filled interiors, a large open staircase visible to the entry and connecting the bi-level space, and smaller, private rooms to the rear of the space.
Based on the owners’ vision, we created mood boards to synthesize the aesthetic palette for the spa. Plant-inspired sage green, water-based aqua and turquoise and earth mineral silvers are the natural element-based colors we gathered. We reconfigured several spaces to afford a large group relaxation room and additional private treatment rooms.
A 2nd-floor hair and nail area was separated from the other open areas by a glass and wood storefront wall system to provide acoustical privacy. We refinished the existing wood floors to a rich, deep brown tone with a satin finish. Along one side of the open stairs, we designed and sourced a living moss wall which is surrounded by an expanse of local Wissahickon schist stone.
The moss wall with internal illumination and a water feature cleanses and oxygenates the air while the fountain provides soothing background sounds. The architectural spaces are enriched by luxurious and elegant furniture, gorgeous paintings, and silken sheer window coverings. The full-service spa and salon offers massage and bodywork, facials, nails, hair and makeup services.
The success of the completed project would not have been possible without several key team members: owners Beth Ann White and Beverly Weaver trusted and engaged the team during design and construction, Glenna Stone Interior Design provided furniture, floor covering and accessories selection and procurement, and local artist Renae Reiser created all the paintings and murals.
